Microsoft Edge Canary

Microsoft’s Edge browser is already available on Android and iPhone, and now Microsoft is making another step towards turning it into one of the leading apps in this software category by releasing its developer channels on Google’s platform as well.

Microsoft Edge Canary now natively supports Apple's M1 processors. With native M1 support, the browser runs better on new Mac devices and can take full advantage of the new silicon. The initial release on the Play Store doesn't say which version Edge Canary has been posted, but on my Pixel 5, it's 91.0.859.0, the same release version as Edge Canary on Windows. In December 2020 Microsoft announced the release of a native ARM version of Edge browser for Apple M1 devices. With this native Edge build, users could expect better performance when compared to the earlier Rosetta-based build on Apple M1 devices. Then only the Canary version was available, which is, of course, the buggiest and most.

In other words, users can download preview builds of Microsoft Edge even on Android, as the Canary version has been published on the Google Play Store.

Needless to say, Canary builds aren’t recommended for production devices, but they do come in handy whenever you want to try out new features in advance.

Worth knowing, however, is that Edge Canary comes with an increased likelihood of bugs, with updates released on a daily basis for testing purposes.

“Want to be one of the first to preview what’s new? The Microsoft Edge preview channels are now available for mobile! This is the Microsoft Edge Canary channel for Android. Canary will be released daily to keep you up to date on our progress. Your feedback is what helps us improve, so download now and let us know what you think,” the description of Edge Canary in the Google Play storereads.

Users can already download it

Edge is quickly becoming one of the leading browsers out there, as the move to the Chromium engine has allowed Microsoft to turn it into a cross-platform offering with features that can easily roam across devices. The mobile versions of Edge are also growing in popularity especially as more people stick with the same browser on the desktop, with statistics showing that close to 10 percent of the computers out there still run Microsoft’s Edge on a daily basis.

Microsoft is yet to officially announce the new Edge Canary for Android devices, and while an announcement is expected to land rather sooner than later, you can head over to the Google Play Store to download Edge Canary right now. Pokemon omega ruby emulator mac.

The latest version of Edge Canary for Android feels like a new browser.

Microsoft launched Edge Canary for Android yesterday. The new version of Edge – 91.0.858.0 – is in line with the Windows 10 desktop version of Edge Canary, and as a result, is a massive leap over what Edge offered on Android before. We already covered the news of Edge Canary launching on Android, but I wanted to share a quick first impressions post of the app.

The current version of Edge beta on Android is 46.03.24.5155, which seems ancient compared to version 91.0.858.0 seen in the new Edge Canary. With that massive jump comes a fresh user interface, menu layout, and improved scrolling. Edge Canary also supports edge://flags, just like the desktop version of Edge.

Edge

The jump comes from the fact that Microsoft is unifying the codebase of Edge across platforms. This will help bring new features to Edge on Android and other platforms while also easing the development process.

The shift to Edge Canary brings a ton of noteworthy improvements, but after downloading the app and using it throughout the day, my main takeaway is its speed. If the only thing that changed between the old version and the new version was speed, I'd still be happy, considering it's as fast as it is.

I know it's cliche to say that an update 'seems faster.' It's a recurring joke in Microsoft news circles for a reason. That being said, Edge Canary for Android legitimately does seem faster. The browser absolutely flies for me. Pages load instantly, scrolling is smooth, and navigating the browser feels leaps and bounds above the standard version of Edge on Android.

Edge Canary is in its early stages, so some people have run into bugs and issues. That's to be expected with any app in preview. I happen to be one of the lucky ones that haven't run into any issues. I've been able to sign in with my Microsoft account and zip across the web.

One person on Reddit has been impressed by Edge Canary's ability to scale across the Galaxy Fold 2. Others appreciate its speed on displays with 90Hz refresh rates. Overall, it seems like I'm not alone in noticing the massive speed bump for Edge on Android.

I hope that this is a glimpse of things to come. If Edge continues in this direction, it could become the best browser on Android.
