Reappearance of an old favorite in Boston’s South End – 25 October 2007

Although there are some attractive green ivies growing on houses and shops in Boston, variegated and other non-green ivies are rare. I came across this H h ‘Buttercup’ about ten years ago in the South End. Back then it covered the top of the brick wall along the street; but a few years ago it was cut back during some construction in the back garden. It grew back enough by last summer to reappear above the top of the wall. If it is allowed to re-grow to its previous proportions it will cover the top of the wall running about 3 meters from the house to the alley, and will display a thick growth of rich yellow leaves in spring and autumn.
